  -ism \-ism\ [F. -isme, or L. -ismus, Gr. ?.]
     A suffix indicating an act, a process, the result of an act
     or a process, a state; also, a characteristic (as a theory,
     doctrine, idiom, etc.); as, baptism, galvanism, organism,
     hypnotism, socialism, sensualism, Anglicism.
