  Cowcatcher \Cow"catch`er\ (-k?ch`?r), n.
     A strong inclined frame, usually of wrought-iron bars, in
     front of a locomotive engine, for catching or throwing off
     obstructions on a railway, as cattle; the pilot. [U.S.]
