  Bogle \Bo"gle\, n. [Scot. and North Eng. bogle, bogill, bugill,
     specter; as a verb, to terrify, fr. W. bwgwl threatening,
     fear, bwg, bwgan, specter, hobgoblin. Cf. Bug.]
     A goblin; a specter; a frightful phantom; a bogy; a bugbear.
