  Synapta \Syn*ap"ta\ (s[i^]n*[a^]p"t[.a]), n. [NL., fr. Gr.
     synapto`s fastened together; sy`n with + 'a`ptein to fasten.]
     (Zool.)
     A genus of slender, transparent holothurians which have
     delicate calcareous anchors attached to the dermal plates.
